In the past, the Korean scientific community avoided working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credibility. But silence is no anymore an option.
The STR has been battling to get rid of textbooks that describe evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the development paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains the change in the genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their environments, which can cause variations in genes, or even entire genomes. Over time these changes could result in the creation of new species. While these are troubling developments, it is important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from a variety of sources, such as fossils, genetics, and even the behavior of living creatures. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.

What is Creationism?

While some creationists are not Christian however, they are a majority. Creationists typically fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
The most popular type of creationist is the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in the exact way that is described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the first six days of creation is literal and that the universe as well as life on Earth were created just recently.
OECs might not be as well-known However, their beliefs are as passionate like the YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is a myth.
Both types of creationism deny that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origins of life on Earth. In general, the creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. This is supported by a myriad of professional associations which include the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education as well as the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, some scientists and educational institutions are more flexible and allow for the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curriculum.
What is Creationism in Korea?

Publishers of high school textbooks have recently declared that they will be removing references to evolution from their books. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this drive. The STR has scored its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, the Archeopteryx. Its next target is to take out excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research as well as on human evolution.
STR claims to have the backing of 4,000 families and individual members. Its goal is to weed out what it believes is the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of students in biology found that half did not believe in evolution. The causes are not clear, but could include religious beliefs or the absence of creation scientists in the US.
The KACR has achieved many things in the past through seminars and lectures. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and the book. The most notable of these is a text on the natural sciences that has an orthodox creationist perspective, which sparked interest in college communities. In 1991 the year 1991, a minister and professor started teaching Creation Science in one university, and it is taught to this day.
On August 6 and 7 in 1993, the same day that the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from abroad including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of a few thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering talks on creation science at major seminaries, too. KACR intends to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
