Until recently the scientific community in Korea has refrained from engaging with creationists, afraid that it could boost the credibility of the group. But silence is no longer an option.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate information about evolution from textbooks including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestral bird. This is only one aspect of the way in which the development paradigm has changed.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains the evolution of genetic characteristics over time. 에볼루션 블랙잭 is based upon the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which could result in changes to genes or entire genomes. Over time, these changes can result in the emergence of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. The term "evolution" originates from the Latin word for unrolling or revealing. However, the concept itself has had many different meanings over the years as it has taken shape in the sciences and other fields. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to change into a new species. The term"transmutation" was coined by Lamarck's disciple, embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this view. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 challenged this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the notion that existing species change into new species in a gradual and predictable manner.
Recently, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living organisms develop traits that increase their chances of survival or ability to produce offspring. In time, genetic variation can cause a population to acquire new physical traits or biological functions. Natural selection is the process that drives the majority of evolutionary changes. However other changes that are not genetic, such as the increase in the muscle mass as a result of exercise or diet cannot be considered to be examples of evolution because they are not inherited by the next generation.
Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and a multitude of scientific studies however, creationists have taken advantage of the idea that evolution is controversial and argue that it should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high schools. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary history of humans as well as Archaeopteryx which is a feathered dinosaur which is believed to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important for Humanity?
Evolution explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the foundations of biology and helps scientists discover how living things operate and develop. The evidence for evolution of biological species is overwhelming. It is essential to remember that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religious beliefs as it only focuses on physical objects, events, and processes.
Many religious people have found a way to reconcile evolution with their beliefs. For example certain Christians believe that God created the universe through evolution, and that humans share an ancestry with other animals.
It is important for scientists to support the teaching of evolution. Unfortunately, in some countries around the world there is a growing anti-evolutionist sentiment. In the United States some states have taken measures to restrict teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is pushing for textbooks to include content on the evolution of horses and their ancestral avian species Archaeopteryx.
It is important to remember that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse range of sources, including fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.
The majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reasons for this support vary. Certain scientists study evolution in order to make practical discoveries that can lead to the development of new medications or developing new medicines, while others are driven by a desire to improve animal and plant species, generally to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, whereas still others have a deep religious belief in God and want to know how the universe works.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. Although some creationists are not Christian however, many are. Creationists typically fall into two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).

OECs are not as well-known however they are just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is an untruth.
Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis can explain the origins of life on Earth. They argue that evolution is impossible because it would require an extraordinary event, and that the pioneers of modern science shied away from miracles due to fear of losing credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary and also special creation. They call their view “theistic evolution." This is also referred to as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of species created." This theory states that God creates species from scratch and then allows them to evolve over time. Then the evolutionary changes result in new species identical to the original species.
Other creationists hold that God created the universe and all living things in a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that all the species of the beginning were created at the same moment and then gradually evolved. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis and argue that the emergence of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.
In general, creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. Numerous professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position, as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions are however more flexible and allow creationism and evolution to be incorporated into their curriculum.
What exactly is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of the concept of creationism, a lot think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. Publishers of high-school textbooks announced last week that they will remove references to evolution in their editions. A group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an unofficial body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. STR has won its first victory by eliminating examples of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx in textbooks. The next step is to remove excerpts from Darwin’s infamous finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims that it has the support of 4,000 families and individual members. The goal, according to STR is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an image of students as being negative. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists in the United States. A survey of trainees in biology found that half did not believe evolution. The reasons for this aren't entirely evident, but they could be due to religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the United States.
The KACR has achieved a number of things through its lectures and seminar events. It publishes a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of these was a textbook on natural science with a cosmological perspective. This sparked an interest in the college community. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught to students today.
On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of a few thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering lectures on creation science in major seminaries as well. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the near future.
